Help repair Cleveland’s ‘Superman’ fence

The Cleveland Plain dealer reports that the Siegel and Shuster Society has launched a campaign to repair the fence that surrounds the property which once contained a house Joe Shuster called home, following damages done to the fence in early June.

The fence and plates will cost about $3,000 to repair, anything extra will be used for future restorations. Considering that the June 5 incident was the second time a drunken person drove into the fence, Goldie said it is in good enough shape to be repaired.

According to the article, funds also will go to repairing the display at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport honoring Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster and the creation of Superman in the city.

Another $1,500 is sought to maintain the Superman exhibit in the baggage claim area of Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.

Visitors have been encouraging children to stand by the Superman statue for photographs, which has caused some minor damage to the exhibit.

“Part of fixing the exhibit would include installing a barrier to keep children off the exhibit,” said Goldie.
