Joe Shuster’s nephew and a collaborator are looking to get a movie dealing with the lives of Jerry Siegel and Shuster off the ground. According to the Topeka Capital Journal, Warren Shuster Peary and Rick Palacioz, have written three screenplays about Siegel, Shuster and the birth of their most-famous creation, Superman.
“When you’re a kid, you don’t realize the importance of what your uncle did, and then you grow up and see the comics, movies and iconic mythology and how important it is,” Peary said.
Peary said he met Palacioz in the mid-1990s, and they started talking about his ties to Superman.
“A spark went off, and we said the story needs to be told about the birth of Superman,” he said.
Peary and Palacioz currently are looking for financial and technical support to get the film from screenplay to the actual screen.
Siegel’s and Shuster’s emotionally charged story is ripe for big-screen picking. With Hollywood’s current love of all things comics, and books such as those written by Brad Ricca and Marc Tyler Nobleman bringing Siegel’s and Shuster’s story to new and wider audiences, a movie seems like the next logical step.

As a child of the Silver Age of Superman and having seen and read everything Superman, I often imagined the story of Jerry and Joe being told on the big screen. The world knows Superman but little is known about his creators. I was thrilled to find that there are those who feel they deserve this recognition. I support and wish you well in making this project a reality.
