Superman Forever Radio, episode 77

Over at Superman Forever Radio, host J. David Weter, beginning with episode 77, has started a new series of episodes celebrating 75 years of the Man of Steel. In the series, Dave plans to read one story from every year of the character’s existence, charting Superman’s growth and changes during seven and a half decades of publication.

In part one of the series, Dave looks at one story each from 1938, 1939, 1940 and 1941. As Jerry Siegel was the only writer of Superman comics during this time, there’s much Siegel (and Shuster!) goodness to be found.

These stories include:

  • The Superman story from ACTION COMICS #2, later called “War in San Monte” (illustred by Joe Shuster!)
  • The Superman story from ACTION COMICS #14, later called “Superman Meets the Ultra-Humanite”
  • The lead story from SUPERMAN #5, later called “The Slot Machine Racket”
  • The final story from SUPERMAN #11, later called “The Plot of Count Bergac”

Unfortunately, since releasing the episode, David has had to put Superman Forever Radio on the back burner. But, should David resume his read-through, it no doubt will feature more Siegel-written, and possibly Shuster-illustrated, stories. Stay tuned!

Just as Superman begat Superboy … Mr. Muscles begat Kid Muscles! Sadly, neither would last as long as their “Super” counterparts.

Remembering Joe

Joe Shuster died on this date in 1992.

Joe Shuster

It is hard to believe it has been 21 years.

Be sure to read some Shuster-drawn comics today in Joe’s memory.
