The Thrilling Adventures of SupermanWelcome to episode 57 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Michael pauses for another Fifth Week installment this episode and rewinds the clock for a look at a story featuring Jor-L. But not the Jor-L we know! This is the story of Jor-L as seen in the pages of a Federal Men story from NEW ADVENTURE COMICS #12 from 1936 — a year and a half prior to the publication of Superman!

The Thrilling Adventures of Superman

Welcome to episode 56 The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Charlie Niemeyer is back as he and Michael look at the seventh storyline from the Superman radio serial. Clark Kent is enlisted to aid in solving the mystery of some airplane disasters — and when Jimmy Olsen tags along, both our favorite cub reporter and the Man of Steel get much more than they bargained for! It’s a fun (if not somewhat maddening) six-episode tale as Superman deals with feral gorillas, rock slides, confused writers and more!

And be sure to check out Charlie’s podcast, Superman in the Bronze Age! A huge thanks once more to Mr. Niemeyer for coming on the show.

QUOTABLE:
Gosh, Mr. Kent! Don’t tell me you licked the strongman!

Michael is joined by J. David Weter for a look at four thrilling Superman tales from SUPERMAN #5. Follow along as Superman smashes and trashes a variety threats from slot machine rackets, crooked newspapermen, life-giving drugs and an incense menace, courtesy of the nefarious Luthor! I was a panelist on episode 123 of From Crisis to Crisis: A Superman Podcast, co-hosted by Michael Bailey and Jeffrey Taylor. In the episode, I joined Michael, Jeffrey, as well as Charlie Niemeyer and J. David Weter of Superman in the Bronze Age, Jon M. Wilson of Golden Age Superman, Scott H. Gardner of I’ve Got a Few Things to Say About Superman and Steve Younis of the Superman Homepage for a roundtable discussion on the epic “Death of Superman” storyline from 1992.

I had a lot of fun with the group and Michael and Jeffrey put out an awesome show. Be sure to check all the back episodes, as well.

And thanks again to Michael and Jeffrey for having me on the show!
