Legends of the BatmanWelcome to episode 28 Legends of the Batman, the show covering everything Batman — from the beginning! The show’s premise is a simple one. Each episode, we cover a month (or so) of Batman, be it comic books, television, movies, whatever, starting with his first appearance in 1939.

This week, Michael Bradley and Michael Kaiser take a break from their normal monthly coverage format to look back at their first completed year, going over the pros and cons, the ups and downs, the lefts and rights of all the Batman material released in 1940. And at the end of the show, the two give their votes for the bests and worsts of the year!

Inspired by many sites, including Rob Kelly’s fantastic Aquaman Shrine and the now mostly-defunct Daily Superman and Daily Batman, I’m unveiling a new feature: Super-Random Super-Panel!

Each Sunday and Wednesday, possibly more often if the mood hits, I will post a random Superman-related comic book panel. Prepare for awesomeness and awkwardness, heroism and hilarity — all in out-of-context, yet easy-to-swallow, form.

The Thrilling Adventures of SupermanWelcome to episode 69 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.

Return to the thrilling days of yesteryear as Michael looks at the 12th storyline from the Superman radio serial. An old friend of Lois’s is charged with running Happyland, the newest amusement park attraction. But when “Midway” Martin’s offer to buy the park is refused, he sets out to make Happyland a lot less happy… causing trouble for Lois and a job for Superman!

QUOTABLE:
“I should say I have something to do… as Superman!
Clark Kent… and Superman

The Superman radio show, obviously, doesn’t allow for scans of images from the story. However, here is a look at a couple spot illustrations, that accompanied the text adaptation of the story in the August issues of Radio and Television Mirror, as well as a look at that issue’s cover. Art was likely done by members of the Shuster shop. Who penned the adaptations themselves, however, is not known.
