Welcome to episode 33 of SUPERMAN & BATMAN, featuring your two favorite heroes in one podcast together!
The show’s premise is simple: Each episode, host Michael Bradley celebrates seven decades of the World’s Finest heroes by looking at stories featuring the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight, chosen at random mostly from the pages of World’s Finest Comics.
“The Super-Batwoman”
ORIGINAL PUBLICATION: World’s Finest Comics #90 (cover date Sept./Oct. 1957)
WHAT TO EXPECT: Superman and Batman got girl trouble! Trouble with a capital “T,” and that rhymes with “P,” and that stands for plenty of misogyny!
ALSO FEATURING: Batwoman, a returning mort and a whoooooooolllle lot of male chauvinism.
PLUS: A look at the book’s other content and what else was on the stands!

Glad to know that the show is coming back on a more frequent schedule. I do enjoy your Parallel Lines podcast, but I’m a bigger fan, myself, of Superman & Batman.
I enjoyed this episode very much, but I think, perhaps, you were looking at the story from your 2015 adult perspective, rather than from the perspective of, say, an 8-year-old boy in 1957, which was probably the audience for which the story was written. At that time, male chauvinism was so common that the phrase “male chauvinism” didn’t even exist, and boys at the target age for the story most likely considered that all girls, even Bat-Woman, had “cooties”. That doesn’t necessarily redeem the attitude of the story, but it makes it more understandable, I think.
In any event, your recap of the story was, as usual, quite good and enjoyable. Thanks for bringing this podcast back, and thanks for your good work.
You make a fair point. I think I made a similar comment somewhere in the episode, but I am guilt of, sometimes, not taking the target market into as much account as I should.
Happy to know folks are glad the show is back, too! I’ll more about the schedule in the Mailbag episode in two weeks.
