Welcome to episode 70 of The Thrilling Adventures of Superman. The show’s mission is to explore the history and development of the Superman in his formative years by chronicling the Man of Steel’s Golden Age adventures in comics, radio and film.
A seemingly mundane incident is the catalyst for our story when Clark Kent interviews a recently successful businessman and finds him to be… bored. But, things make an upward turn as Superman takes on a dangerous new threat known only as “the Lamite” as Michael looks at the fifth storyline from the Sundays installments of the Superman newspaper strip. Beware of giant spiders.

Return to the thrilling days of yesteryear as Michael looks at the 12th storyline from the Superman radio serial. An old friend of Lois’s is charged with running Happyland, the newest amusement park attraction. But when “Midway” Martin’s offer to buy the park is refused, he sets out to make Happyland a lot less happy… causing trouble for Lois and a job for Superman!

However, here is a look at a couple spot illustrations, that accompanied the text adaptation of the story in the August issues of Radio and Television Mirror, as well as a look at that issue’s cover. Art was likely done by members of the Shuster shop. Who penned the adaptations themselves, however, is not known.

The issue sees the Man of Steel taking on a variety of challenges as he attempts to clear Lois Lane’s name after she’s accused of murder, takes on racketeers and swindlers, and helps deliver aid to a earthquake-ravaged country. Plus, someone discovers that Superman and Clark Kent are one in the same. Can our hero stop the secret from getting out? All in a day’s work for Superman.
